Arizona Cities Aim to Improve Pedestrian and Traffic Safety

Arizona is one of the states making a concerted effort to improve road safety not just for motorists, but for pedestrians and bicyclists as well.  Phoenix, Glendale, and Tempe are some of the cities that are altering wide city streets in order to install new and wider sidewalks and what’s known as a High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk.  These crosswalks use signals that can be activated by a pedestrian to give that person just enough time to cross the road, limiting the stoppage to traffic that occurs while vehicles have to wait.
