New Zealand Uses Rail Safety Week to Ward off Pedestrians from Tracks

In Wellington, New Zealand, officials are trying to improve safety among the area’s railways.  Since 2000, 147 people have died because they were in the path of an oncoming train, with nine pedestrians killed this year alone.  An executive with KiwiRail has initiated “Use Your Brain, Tracks Are For Trains” to raise awareness about the danger.  This week is being dedicated to rail safety, and the hope is that pedestrians will be discouraged to walk along tracks.
