GM Developing Tech That Could Eliminate Pedestrian Collisions
Researchers with General Motors have announced that they are working on technology that allows automobiles to communicate directly with smartphones. The system uses the Wi-Fi Direct peer-to-peer wireless connection standard. One of the most promising implementations of the system involves cars being able to identify pedestrians through their phones and thus avoiding a collision with a defenseless walker. Developers say such tech is about five years out, however.
