Listeria Threat Prompts Dole to Recall Italian Blend Bagged Salad

Dole has chosen to recall 1,039 cases of its Dole Italian Blend bagged salad after a test by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture showed a possible contamination. The sample test revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause illness if ingested. Symptoms can include fever, aches and nausea. Those with weak immune systems are at greater risk of incurring a serious illness. The affected salads were distributed in a handful of states.  The item should be tossed out.
