Lowe’s Bathroom Fans Recalled for Fan Blades That Pose Fire Hazard

The threat of a fire hazard has prompted yet another item to be recalled.

A voluntary recall has been issued by Homewerks Worldwide, a company based out of Lincolnshire, Illinois, for 68,000 bathroom exhaust fans sold exclusively in Lowe’s stores across the country.  The fans were made by Delta Electronics, a China-based company, and have a model number of 7109-01-L.  The Harbor Breeze bathroom fans consist of a heater on either side of a center light.  The units are 17 wide by 11 inches long.  They were sold between September 2010 and last March, and they ran consumers $90.

The firm has received eight reports of smoke and flames emanating from within the housing of these fans, with an additional three claims of property damage also coming to the company’s attention.  These reports were the result of a defect affecting the fans wherein the blades of the fan don’t spin around the way that they should.  This leads the unit to overheat and creates a potential fire situation.

A free repair by a Delta Technician can be scheduled by calling the company.  In the meantime, anyone with the item in their possession is being advised to cease using the fans at once.  Delta can also be reached should consumers have any additional questions or concerns.
