New York DOT Inspects Restaurants for Bike Delivery Violations
In New York City, restaurant owners that employ delivery drivers on bicycles can soon expect to receive visits from inspectors with the Department of Transportation. These inspectors will be looking to make sure that employers are providing delivery drivers with proper safety equipment and that the employees themselves obey all driving laws. Delivery drivers will, under new laws, be required to use helmets, vests with reflectors, and have lights and bells on their bikes. Citations, which will be issued beginning in 2013, will be between $100 and $300.
