New York Governor Praises Success of Texting Ban
In the year after texting while driving was banned in New York, the number of tickets issued for the offense have quadrupled from the previous year. The new law allows police to pursue those who text while driving more aggressively than in the past. Prior laws had only permitted law enforcement to issue tickets for texting while driving in connection with other infractions. In a statement, New York’s governor says that the increased number of tickets demonstrates the usefulness of this law for cracking down on distracted driving.
