NHTSA Releases Statistics Showing Rise in Pedestrian Fatalities

New statistics that have just been released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that pedestrian fatality rates rose by 4% in 2010 from 2009.  That equates to 4,280 deaths across the entire country.  Four fifths of these deaths happened in areas that weren’t intersections, but surprisingly, 90% of the fatalities took place during fair weather.  The NHTSA is advising all persons to cross streets at proper crosswalks when there is a traffic break.  California leads the fatality list.
