The lawmaker introducing the bill hopes that this law will help police crack down on distracted drivers, especially those who claim that they were dialing a number and not texting. The fine for being caught would be $50, with a $100 fine imposed if the driver is caught using a device in a school zone or other high-risk areas like construction zones.
