Stringent New Jersey Distracted Driving Law Sent to Governor’s Desk
New Jersey lawmakers are taking further action to prohibit the use of cell phones while driving. It has been reported by the National Safety Council that 1.6 million crashes a year nationwide are being caused by drivers who drive and use cell phones. Under the new law awaiting the governor’s signature, an offender who is found guilty of vehicular manslaughter due to cell phone usage will be subject to serving ten years in prison, as opposed to the 18 month maximum under current laws.
