Malibu, G6, and Aura Automobiles Recalled by GM Over Crash Risk

Chevy Malibu and Pontiac G6 automobiles of the 2008 through 2010 model years, as well as Saturn Auras of the 2007 through 2010 model years, are being recalled by General Motors.  An astounding 426,240 vehicles are affected by the recall.  A fracture can be incurred by the transmission shift cable tabs, and a separation could then occur.  This could lead to a situation where a driver might be able to shift to Park, but the vehicle might not in fact be in the Park position, which poses a rollaway hazard.  No word yet on when free repairs will begin.

Visibility Issue Prompts GM to Recall 44,668 Chevy Sonic Vehicles

General Motors has issued a recall for the Chevy Sonic of the 2012 model year.  Around 44,668 units have a potential problem with their windshield washer hose.  This component can actually separate from the reservoir that holds the washer fluid, resulting in a lack of available fluid. This could thus compromise visibility should debris accumulate on the glass.  The recall affects vehicles that were built between May 5, 2011 and February 24 of this year.  Owners will be able to get free repairs from dealers.

Fuel Gauge Error Leads Nissan to Recall Infiniti JX35 Vehicles

Nissan has announced the recall of 7,842 Infiniti JX35 vehicles of the 2013 model year. An issue in the car’s assembly led to the fuel transfer tube becoming misrouted within the fuel tank in certain models. Because of this, the fuel gauge in the dashboard could produce an incorrect reading, leading drivers to believe that their fuel tank is full when the fuel level is actually decreasing.  Once owners are notified, free repairs will be conducted by dealers.

681 Xpeditor Vehicles Recalled by Autocar Over Seat Belt Failure

681 Xpeditor class 8 vehicles of the 2008 through 2012 model years are being recalled by Autocar.  The company has found a defect in the passenger seat belts that cause them to not work properly.  The consequence of a failing seat belt could be anything from a minor injury to a fatality.  Autocar is contacting all those who own this vehicle and giving instructions on where to go to get the seat belts fixed for free.

Chevy Express and GMC Savana Recalled by GM for Fire Hazard

General Motors has announced the recall of 9,389 GMC Savana and Chevy Express vehicles of the 2003 and 2004 model years. Water and debris can get lodged in part of the fuel filler pipe, which may cause corrosion.  This can in turn lead to fuel leakage that would pose a fire hazard. GM intends to notify the owners of these vehicles, and free repairs will be conducted by dealers.

South Florida Police Not Concerned About Chevy Impala Cruiser Recall

Now that 38,000 Chevy Impalas used as police cruisers have been recalled, residents across the country might be worried that law enforcement might be affected.  However, if various police departments in Southern Florida are any indication, there’s nothing to worry about.  The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office says their deputies don’t use the vehicles for daily patrols, a statement echoed by Fort Lauderdale PD.  Although Broward has four such automobiles, they have pledged to work with a dealer to correct the problem.

Figo and Classic Vehicle Recalled from India and South Africa by Ford

140,000 Figo and Classic vehicles have been recalled from South Africa and India by the Ford Motor Company.  The vehicles, which were manufactured from January 2008 through February 2011, might have a rear twist beam or a hose component that is defective.  The former defect would impede braking ability, while the latter could lead to oil emanating from the hose and posing a fire risk.  Ford has aggressively targeted India  lately in their efforts to expand their market.

189 G55 and G550 Vehicles Recalled by Mercedes for Injury Threat

189 G55 and G550 vehicles of the 2011 model year are being recalled by Mercedes-Benz because of a risk associated with the airbags.  Should they go off during a crash, a molding strip has parts which can detach and shoot forward with the airbag.  This could injure the very person the airbag is meant to protect.  Starting in September, Mercedes will be in touch with owners of these vehicles, at which point free repairs can be obtained from dealers.

16,000 Transit Connect Vehicles Recalled by Ford For Wiper Arm Defect

Transit Connect vehicles of the 2011 through 2012 model years are being recalled by the Ford Motor Company.  Over 16,000 units are possibly affected by a wiper blade riveting defect that could lead the windshield wiper to become completely removed from the vehicles.  In times of inclement weather, this would necessarily impede a driver’s ability to see the roadway.  On August 13, Ford will set about getting in touch with owners, and dealers have been instructed to provide free wiper arm replacement.

Santa Fe Vehicles Recalled by Hyundai Due to Passenger Injury Threat

Hyundai Santa Fe automobiles of the 2007 through 2009 model years are being recalled due to an improperly calibrated occupant classification system which could fail to detect adults with a small stature in the front passenger seat.  The system could thus fail to trigger the airbag during a crash. Affected models were produced between April 19, 2006 and July 7, 2008. Owners can get in touch with Hyundai for more information. Dealers will perform repairs free of charge.

Sonatas Recalled by Hyundai Due to Airbag Injury Hazard

Vehicle manufacturer Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center Inc is recalling a number of Hyundai Sonatas of the 2012 and 2013 model years. The curtain side airbags may inflate without warning, potentially injuring occupants or distracting the driver, causing dangerous driving or a crash. Hyundai will be contacting owners regarding free replacement of the defective airbags starting this month.

RAV4 and Lexus 250H Recalled for Potential Crash Hazard

760,000 RAV4 sport utility vehicles of the 2006 through 2011 model years and 18,000 Lexus 250h Sedans of the 2010 model year have been recalled by Toyota because their rear suspension arms’ nuts could be loose.  The recall is reportedly not due to a manufacturing error but to an error that occurred while maintenance was being conducted.  During rear wheel alignment, the nuts weren’t torqued correctly, and they thus pose a separation hazard.  No solution has been given as yet, but contact will be made with owners once a remedy becomes apparent.

Ford Recalls 2001 Through 2004 Escapes For Potential Crash Hazard

Ford has announced the recall of the 2001 through 2004 Ford Escape vehicles. 423,634 vehicles are affected by a potentially stuck throttle. While dealers were in the process of trying to repair a faulty accelerator cable, which was the reason for a previous recall, they could possibly have damaged the cruise control cable due to the design of the Ford Escape. When Ford realized this problem, they simply sent out memos to dealers asking them to be especially careful while repairing the accelerator cable. They did not, however, tell vehicle owners of the problem, according to the Center for Auto Safety.  Ford will increase the space between the cruise control cable and the engine to fix this new problem.

Navistar Recalls 16 International Lonestar Vehicles For Crash Hazard

16 International Lonestar vehicles of the 2011 and 2012 model years are being recalled by Navistar. The wheels may eventually crack due to corrosion, and this may cause the wheels to become separated from the vehicle. The driver might not be able to control the vehicle if that occurred, and the incident would likely result in a crash. Navistar will be contacting owners and dealers will be replacing the wheels of these vehicles at no cost to the consumer.

Warning Label Defect Prompts Recall of 21 Kenworth T680 Vehicles

21 Kenworth T680 vehicles of the 2013 model year are being recalled by Paccar because of a defect on the upper bunk’s warning label.  After being installed, this label can corrode and become unreadable.  Thus, anyone attempting to heed the warnings contained within the label’s text would be unable to do so, and could operate their vehicle in some dangerous manner without even knowing they’re committing an error.  Owners will be contacted by Paccar in August, and label replacements will be carried out by dealers.

83 Beetles Recalled by Volkswagen Due to Tire Installation Error

Volkswagen has announced the recall of 83 Beetles of the 2012 model year because these automobiles might not have the correct tires installed.  Instead, they could have summer tires that take them out of compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 139 and 110.  This could lead to an under-inflation, an overload, or both, posing a crash hazard.  In September, vehicle owners can expect to be contacted by Volkswagen, who will replace the tires at no cost.

9,320 Ford Escapes Recalled Over Potential Fuel Leak

9,320 Ford Escapes of the 2013 model year are being recalled because their engine compartment fuel lines are in danger of splitting.  Should this occur, fuel might leak out of the component.  A fire could take place if the fuel is ignited in some way, endangering anyone onboard or in the surrounding area.  Customers can contact a dealer to get a technician to pick up their vehicle for repairs.  Loaners will be distributed if consumers request one.

Honda CR-V and Acura ILX Recalled Over Front Door Locking Defect

Honda is issuing a recall of their CR-V of the 2012 model year and their Acura ILX vehicles of the 2013 model year. There is a problem with the lock system wherein activation of the power door lock while a vehicle occupant opens the front door from the inside could compromise the door latch.  If a door is not fully latched, it could swing open during vehicle operation. This would increase the risk of injury to drivers and their passengers. There are roughly 172,000 vechicles that are affected. Honda will replace the door latch and handles at no cost to the consumer.

2013 Kenworth T680s Recalled Over Restraint Belt Defect

Paccar is recalling Kenworth T680 vehicles of the 2013 model year that were produced between January 19 and May 15 of this year. The buckle assembly and the upper bunk restraint belt were mistakenly not made to the specified strength. If these vehicles are not fixed, it may lead the restraint harness buckle to unlatch during a crash situation, increasing the likelihood of an injury being incurred by vehicle occupants. To get these vehicles fixed, owners can bring them in to a dealer.  Notifications will be issued by Paccar at some point in August.

Porsche Cayenne and Panamera Recalled Because of Fire Hazard

Porsche is recalling the Cayenne Turbo, the Panamera Turbo, and the Panamera Turbo S  from the model years 2011 and 2012. The turbocharger’s turbine wheel is prone to fracture, which may cause the turbine shaft to fracture.  This increases the risk of exhaust smoke and a potential engine fire. The problem will be fixed by dealers at no charge to the owner of the vehicle.
