Crash Hazard Prompts Vermeer to Recall Brush Chipper Trailers

Vermeer has issued a recall on 3,450 single axle brush chipper trailers of the 2009 through 2012 model years. Their axle mounting bolts have been shown to loosen, which can cause the axle to become detached from the brush chipper. This poses a crash hazard. Vermeer will be in touch with affected consumers around August 24 and dealers will replace the faulty parts at no cost.

Cottrell Recalls 1,767 Trailers for Potential Fire Threat

1,767 trailers are being recalled by Cottrell.  Each of the trailers, which are of the 2006 through 2011 model years, has a Meritor axle with a bearing system that does not have an expected shelf-life that would be appropriate for safe driving.  Therefore, anyone who uses the system for a long time would find that their bearing grease has degraded to the point where the bearing itself could fail and lead to a fire.  A previous recall was instituted, but unfortunately, owners who received repairs under that recall are required to once again bring their vehicles in to a dealer to get free repairs.
