510 Trailers Recalled By Westmor Over Crash and Fire Threat

510 trailers of the 2003 through 2013 model years are being recalled by Westmor Industries because of a potential issue with the pressure release valves from Emerson.  These H732 and H832 valves of the Fisher brand could see their stems break, a defect that could lead to full separation.  Following the subsequent ejection of the valve, gas will be allowed to emanate from the component.  If a flame is in the vicinity of this pressurized gas, it could spark a blaze.  In addition, the valve’s ejection could prompt a strike on a nearby vehicle.  There’s no word on when this recall will start, but once it does, owners will hear from Westmor and be able to receive a new valve from Emerson.

Rushmore, Elevation, and Redwood Trailers Recalled Over Fire Risk

Rushmore, Elevation, and Redwood Trailers of the 2013 model year have been recalled by Crossroads RV because of a potential fire issue.  On an estimated 160 of these vehicles, the power converters that are used to supply the unit with A/C power are in danger of experiencing a short circuit within their internal components, and if this happens, a fire could break out and cause an injury or property damage.  At some point this month, the recall should begin, and owners will hear from Crossroads about the issue.  They’ll then be able to bring the trailers by a dealer to get new internal components installed.

2013 Trailers Recalled By Northwood Over Possible Overloading Risk

Snow River, Desert Fox, Arctic Fox, and Fox Mountain trailers of the 2013 model year have been recalled by Northwood Manufacturing because an erroneous label could lead vehicle owners to place too much weight into the vehicle.  The incorrect specifications found on these labels bring the trailers out of compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Standards.  If somebody follows the directives contained therein and overloads the trailer, the axle could fail and the trailer could be involved in a crash because of the condition.  152 trailers are affected, and owners will be provided with new labels that contain the correct details.  Northwood should be getting in touch with such persons soon.

Springdale Travel Trailers Recalled Over Possible Crash Threat

Springdale 266RLSSR and 267BHSSR Travel Trailers of the 2013 model year have been recalled by the Keystone RV Company.  37 of these trailers could have come equipped with labels that stipulate an incorrect level of proper tire inflation, thus bringing the vehicles out of compliance with the Federal Vehicle Standard for tire selection and rims.  A person heeding the information would risk over-inflating their tires, thus compromising the ability of those tires.  If a failure occurs, a crash becomes a possibility.  The recall should start by week’s end, at which point owners will hear from Keystone.  They should then receive a replacement label at no cost.

361 Livestock Trailers Recalled By Wilson Trailer Company

Livestock trailers of the 2010 through 2013 model years are being recalled by the Wilson Trailer Company because of a potential issue with the nose compartment’s lift deck.  361 of these trailers are affected by the recall, which was initiated because the the raising and lowering action of the deck might not be privy to proper tracking.  This is due to a failure of the plastic deck guides.  A containment failure might lead the deck to fall beyond the permanent deck support rails.  If this were to occur, anything inside the trailer might be damaged.  At some point this month, the recall will begin in earnest.  Once it does, owners will hear from the company, and free repairs will be offered by dealers.

2,200 Trailers Recalled by Forest River Over Wheel Detachment Threat

2,200 trailers of the 2011 through 2012 model years with wheels from the Carlisle Toy Hauler series are being recalled by Forest River.  The proper specifications were not met in the manufacturing process for certain vehicle components.  This would lead inadequate torquing to have potentially occurred in the aforementioned wheels, which might cause the wheels to become loose or even detach from the trailers while in use, posing a crash hazard and creating an obstacle for others on the road.  Owners can expect to hear from Forest River beginning at some point this month.  Repairs will be available from dealers at no cost to consumers.

Three Trailers Recalled by Alumina Over Wheel Separation Risk

Alumina has announced the recall of three trailers that came with toy hauler trailer wheels of the Black Rock brand.  These vehicles, each of the 2011 model year, were recalled because of a potential manufacturing error that might have led to improper torquing of these wheels.  This lack of adequate tightness could cause the wheels to become loose and possibly dislodge completely.  The vehicle could then crash due to the attendant separation of the wheels.  Owners will be alerted to the issue by Alumina, who will be instructing those same owners to get in touch with Carlisle, the supplier.  Free repairs will be conducted at a nearby service center.  The recall takes place this month.

Cottrell Recalls 1,767 Trailers for Potential Fire Threat

1,767 trailers are being recalled by Cottrell.  Each of the trailers, which are of the 2006 through 2011 model years, has a Meritor axle with a bearing system that does not have an expected shelf-life that would be appropriate for safe driving.  Therefore, anyone who uses the system for a long time would find that their bearing grease has degraded to the point where the bearing itself could fail and lead to a fire.  A previous recall was instituted, but unfortunately, owners who received repairs under that recall are required to once again bring their vehicles in to a dealer to get free repairs.

Tracker Marine Recalls Trailstar Trailers for Potential Crash Hazard

A trailer recall has been necessitated because of the danger the units might potentially pose to highway safety.

Tracker Marine has issued a voluntary recall of their Trailstar Tahoe, Nitro, and Nitro Sport boat trailers.  Each of the items was produced between the end of September of last year and May 13, 2012.  589 trailers in total fall within the scope of the recall, and each of the trailers will be of the 2012 or 2013 model year.

The recall was initiated because of concerns over the brake actuator shell.  Problems with a bracket welded to this trailer component could lead the master cylinder shaft rod to experience limited motion.  Limited motion might then lead to overheating of the brakes and wheel bearing failure.  This would increase the possibility of a crash taking place, endangering anyone onboard as well as other motorists.

Owners will be notified by Tracker Marine, and once that happens, no-cost repairs will be made by dealers when affected consumers bring their trailers in.  These repairs will consist of a new brake actuator being placed into the vehicles.  Notices should be sent out at the beginning of next month.

Anyone with questions or concerns is being advised to get in touch with Tracker Marine directly.  The campaign number being used is TS-0027.

Frame Defect Prompts Vermeer To Recall 1,770 BC 1500 Trailers

Another recall has been issued for a line of vehicles that could pose a safety hazard.

This time, the recall was announced by the Vermeer Manufacturing Company on their Vermeer BC 1500 trailers that have model years between 2007 and 2012.  A total of 1,770 units are affected by this particular recall.

The problem is that parts of the main frame may be welded in a way not conducive to safe operation.  This issue, which would have involved an error in the vehicle’s assembly,  could lead to fatigue fractures or bending that could result in the frame failing outright.  Should that failure take place, property could be damaged and the risk of an individual in the vicinity incurring an injury will also increase.

Owners are being contacted by Vermeer, who have announced their intentions to make any repairs necessary without cost to the consumer.  This recall is set to take place on August 10.  Until that time, owners who have questions or concerns about their vehicles are being advised to contact Vermeer directly.  Concerned individuals, or those who wish to report a defect, can also get in touch with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  The campaign number being used for this recall is 12V260000.
