Technological Improvements Could Benefit Pedestrian Safety in U.S.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released statistics showing an increase in pedestrian fatalities and crashes, with 4,300 such deaths in 2010. A member of America Walks would like to see our country emulate Europe in that continent’s approach to pedestrian safety, and the NHTSA appears to be taking a step in that direction by meeting in September to finalize design standards in vehicles that aim to improve pedestrian safety. Improvements include hood and bumper design changes that should absorb impact and cut down on injuries.
