Texting While Driving Ban Approved in Sioux Falls, South Dakota

The Sioux Falls City Council has passed a distracted driving ban that carries a fine of $200 if an individual is caught texting behind the wheel.  The law is set to begin on September 28. The council voted unanimously in the hopes that distracted driving-related crashes would decrease.  There is still some confusion as to how police will be able to deduce whether texting has occurred or not. According to the police chief, it will be up to law enforcement officials to provide proof, adding that the law will be good for the city. Excluded from the ban are GPS apps on phones.
