Tips to Ensure Drugs Contaminated by Floods Don’t Pose a Threat

The effects of Hurricane Sandy can be seen all over the news, but one potentially overlooked threat is the ruination that has befallen drugs affected by floodwaters, and in the case of medications that need to be refrigerated, power outages.  Toss out this latter medication if your electricity has been compromised by a power outage.  If flood waters come into contact with your medication, said medication could be contaminated with any number of bacteria that could offset the benefits of the drug.  Replace any items you think are no longer safe, and if no such replacement for a vital drug is readily available, then use caution if you take the drugs and be on the lookout for side effects.
