Troy, Michigan City Council Divided on Distracted Driving Ban Language

The City Council of Troy, Michigan is attempting to work out a compromise for an ordinance targeting distracted driving. Proponents want to include under the ban a section that targets such habits as consuming food, writing, reading, unharnessed pets, distracting passengers, and more. Opponents of this language believe that it is too inclusive and that police would be able to issue tickets to people performing these tasks who are not driving recklessly.  The matter has been tabled for now.
