Victoria, BC Tragedy Shines Light on Need for Pedestrian Improvements
Pedestrian safety has gotten a renewed focus in Victoria, British Columbia following the death of a person who was killed by a tour bus while crossing the street. Tour buses are not subject to the rules and regulations of commercial trucks, but some would like to see more emphasis placed on creating a pedestrian-friendly environment rather than restricting tour buses as if they were big rigs. A liaison for the City Council wouldn’t mind seeing “pedestrian scrambles” that stop traffic in all directions to let all people on foot cross at once.
